In this murder mystery game, each of you slips into an eccentric role - preferably wearing a costume - and is one of the main suspects in a murder case. The goal of the game is to have a nice evening with friends and investigate a mysterious murder case together. You'll be on each other's tail, discussing clues, laughing a lot, and trying to figure out the culprit. The murderer among you, however, wants to remain unrecognized and will try to pin the crime on someone else. The game consists of four rounds. In the first three rounds, new clues and information will appear that will advance the game. In the fourth and final round, the accusation is made and you vote on who you think the murderer is and what his motive might be. Finally, the solution will be read aloud.
As host, you decide who gets which role. You can distribute the roles randomly or choose a role for each guest that best fits the character description. Men's roles can also be played by women and vice versa. You can also choose any role. We recommend playing the murder mystery dinner in costume, even if it's just with an accessory, as this will create the best atmosphere. You can of course play without costumes, just tell your guests in advance.
In this murder mystery game, you will know from the very beginning whether you are the murderer or not. That's why the most important rule of the game is that only the murderer can lie. Of course, everyone has something to hide, and no one wants their dark secrets to come to light. That's why all players can conceal information about themselves, talk their way out of it, or divert suspicion to others. However, as a non-killer, you have to tell the truth as soon as you are directly asked about something. This does not mean that someone who lies is automatically the murderer. Sometimes you make a mistake or don't know any better at that moment. So every player can seem contradictory from time to time.
The game can last three to four hours with the complete cast of characters. Therefore, it makes sense to provide food and drink. You are free to decide on the form of catering. You can simply prepare snacks and ask your guests if they can also take nibbles or finger food. Of course, you can also prepare a three-course menu that can be integrated into the game. However, keep in mind that you, as the host, are also playing along and could possibly get the role of the murderer. Therefore, you should make sure that you are not too distracted by the cooking during the game and that you have already prepared the meal before the game starts.
